ESG: EUROAPI becomes a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact and the Global Responsible Care® Charter

EUROAPI advances in its Environmental, Social, and Governance (“ESG”) ambition. The company is proud to have joined the United Nations Global Compact initiative — a voluntary leadership platform for the development, implementation and disclosure of responsible business practices. EUROAPI joins forces with thousands of companies globally committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and to contribute to the UN targets embodied by the Sustainable Development Goals (“SDGs”). 

EUROAPI also signed the Global Responsible Care® Charter to illustrate its support for the safe management of chemicals throughout their life cycles, the promotion of their role in improving quality of life and their contribution to sustainable development.

Becoming a member of the United Nations Global Compact initiative and a signatory to the Global Responsible Care® Charter is another step in advocating for responsible business practices in support of broader societal goals,” noted Karl Rotthier, Chief Executive Officer, EUROAPI.

EUROAPI abides by four ESG commitments:

These commitments are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and contribute in particular to five of them: ensuring healthy lives and promoting global well-being for all age groups (SDG #3); achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls (SDG #5); promoting sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all (SDG #8); building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation (SDG #9); and responsible consumption and production (SDG #12).

As part of its continued engagement, EUROAPI will disclose its progress to the United Nations annually, outlining its efforts in the areas of human rights, anti-corruption, labor, and environment. 


About the UN Global Compact 

Launched in 2000, the UN Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world, with more than 15,000 companies and 4,000 non-business signatories based in over 160 countries, and 70 local networks. 

The Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact

Human Rights:

Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and
Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.

Labour:

Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;
Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and
Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

Environment:

Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and
Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Anti-Corruption:

Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.

Responsible Care® is the global chemical industry’s voluntary initiative, which – beyond legislative and regulatory compliance – commits companies, national chemical industry associations and their partners to:
